Driver's License Suspensions - Not Just Punishment for DUIs

Did you know you could lose your license for a drug conviction?  How about for shoplifting?  Did you know that you could lose your license more than 2 times as long for a marijuana possession conviction that you would for driving under the influence?!

Well it is true.  You can lose your license on a shoplifting or petit theft charge if you are convicted for a second offense of that type.  What's even more shocking, or maybe surprising, is that a marijuana possession conviction will result in a 2 year driver license suspension!  You can blow 10 times over the limit for a DUI, and most people will lose their license for either 6 months or 1 year.  But it's 2 years for ANY drug conviction (and you don't have to be driving).  It is the simple fact that you are CONVICTED of a drug charge.

So if you or anyone you know, are facing any of these type of charges, it is important to do everything you can to avoid a conviction, if possible.  An experienced attorney can fight to avoid that conviction.  We handle these issues routinely and it is important to know your rights and what you need to do to keep your license valid, OR if you do lose it (or have lost it), what steps you can take to get it back.  Many times a hardship license is available or a person is eligible for one, but they never knew how to do it, and when or if they qualify.  Feel free to contact our office if you have any questions regarding a license suspension, or if you are facing a charge that could subject you to a driver license suspension.  These days, driving is essential and no one wants to lose that privilege if it can be avoided.
